Ian has been a partner in the Morrison Kent Litigation Team since 1987, and is currently the head of the Resource Management Law Team.

Experience
- 24 years’ advocacy experience in District and High Courts, the Environment Court, and Court of Appeal.
- Providing strategic, compliance, and consent advice to a major resort developer in the Wakatipu basin.
- Representing parties against Meridian Energy’s Project Hayes (Central Otago), with success in the Environment Court (under appeal).
- Acting for developers of rural/residential land within an Outstanding Natural Landscape.
- Securing a plan change for an extension of Waikanae township, Kapiti Coast
- Adviser to developers of rural land in Hawkes Bay, Kaikoura, South Wairarapa, Canterbury and Taupo districts.
- Representing an energy retailer on successful resource consent application including appeals to the Environment Court, High Court and Court of Appeal.
- Representing a developer of retail mega-centres through consent, appeal and judicial review processes.
- Representing an international airport in the preparation and promulgation of a dedicated airport precinct within a District Plan. Ongoing representation on environmental, compliance and strategic issues.
- Obtaining resource consents for retail and apartment developments in sensitive sites and heritage buildings on Wellington’s waterfront and CBD, including the Herd Street Post Office redevelopment, additional height on Maritime Towers, and The Watermark.
- Counsel assisting Boards of Inquiry on the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement and the called-in Turitea Wind Farm application
