On 20 March a group of weed thirsty Morrison Kent Wellington Staff took to the hills of Mount Victoria for a spot of gardening in support of theVolunteer Wellington2009 Corporate Challenge. After a brief description of our foe (the insidious asparagus fern) we went into the bush armed only with secateurs, trowels and considerable enthusiasm. Within a few hours the hillside was pest free.
In the afternoon we were joined by John McDougall and students from Clyde Quay School to clean up areas around young trees the students had planted the year before. With a plentiful supply of coffee bean sacks from as far afield as Bolivia, we put down an organic layer to protect against further weed onslaught for years to come.
This was Morrison Kent's third year in the Corporate Challenge, and another satisfying opportunity to assist some great community causes.
